It’s International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), a day where we celebrate female engineers and their incredible skills. At Huboo we’re blessed with super talented female engineers, two outstanding examples being Mihaela and Elamathi. Here’s a bit about them and what they do.
Name: Mihaela Ciuca
Role/Department: Software QA Lead, Software /QA engineers
Why did you choose a career in engineering?
I am passionate about technology. I like to question, discover, and improve, the quality of a software. I love challenges and I get that a lot as a QA.
What does your job involve?
Bring quality to all the phases of the software development lifecycle. A quality assurance ensures that the final product observes the company’s quality standards.
What is the most exciting thing about your job?
The most exciting thing is, to find a solution for a difficult enough problem. I love challenges and knowing that my work has made a real difference in the project gives me a lot of satisfaction. I have also learnt so much and know I will keep learning, as all the variety in my work means there is always new things to learn.
What inspires you about engineering?
I suppose we are all inspired by mega-projects and stunning technical achievements. But really, 99% of engineering is detail work. And most projects, especially the mega-projects and stunning technical achievements, are so big and take so long that you, the individual engineer, only get ownership of a very small slice.
What would you say to girls in school/college who may be considering engineering as a career or study option?
One of the coolest things about a software testing career is that it is just as technical as it is creative. You have to stretch your mind to understand a product’s functionality and general behaviour, to improve analysis power, to learn new tools and to implement the learning in real life. Engineering is a good career choice with the perspective of higher-than-average income, responsibility, and the possibility to assert some authority or power.
